Fundraisers
Support Vital Programs
The 2004 calendar is filling up with ways for the community to
support vital programs that touch many lives.
These events are important
not only because of the necessary funds they provide, but also
for the friendships and partnerships they foster. Munson Healthcare
is fortunate to have formed many fine partnerships that strengthen
the entire community. The relationships that are built during
these events help us explore common interests, common challenges,
and common goals.
We hope you will find an event
or two in the upcoming months that sparks your interest. Consider
this year's assortment of golf tournaments and social events as
opportunities to meet new friends and reconnect with old ones.
On Feb. 7, 440 people dined
and danced at the 15th annual Munson Ball, raising $67,000 to
help support emergency
services at Munson Medical Center. Guests enjoyed a Celtic
theme, a gourmet dinner, and a festive evening at the Grand Traverse
Resort and Spa. The music of the pipes has hardly faded, but plans
are already underway for next year's Ball, scheduled for Saturday,
Feb. 5, 2005.
Plante & Moran were the
Ball's Premier Sponsor. The Bill Marsh Auto Group, Credit Union
One, The Diehl Foundation, Grand Traverse Heart Associates, and
PPOM were Benefactor Sponsors of the Ball, while Corporate Sponsors
included Bank One, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Tri-County
Medical Society, Harleysville, ING, Marshall Erdman & Associates,
Priority Health, Sodexho, and Tower, Pinkster, Titus & Associates.
"From Women's Hands,"
an all-female art exhibit and sale, took place April 30 to May
3 to raise awareness about the arts, women artists, and the Women's
Cancer Fund. The three-day event was held at the Grand Traverse
Heritage Center, formerly the Traverse City Library, at 322 Sixth
St. in Traverse City. This all-woman exhibit and sale offered
a rare opportunity for female artists to show and sell their work.
Twenty percent of all sales and 100 percent of art raffle revenues
were donated to the Women's Cancer Fund.
A summer golf tradition is
scheduled for June 24 when Crystal Mountain hosts the ninth annual
Women's Health Classic. The day of golf will help provide funds
to benefit women's health issues. Registration is $125 per person
and includes an 18-hole scramble with cart and much more. The
action begins at 10 am with registration, a 9-hole short game
contest followed by lunch, and a shotgun start at 12:30 pm.
Crystal Mountain will again
host the 2004 Michigan PGA Women's Open July 21-25 with a 36-hole
Pro Am scramble in which foursomes play with a PGA or LPGA professional.
Participating teams have an opportunity to win prizes, such as
airline tickets, golf equipment, and golf packages. The three-day
pro tourney begins on July 26. Last year this outstanding golf
event raised $25,000 for the Immediate Needs for Women Fund, the
Women's Cancer Fund, and the Munson Healthcare Auxiliary Coalition.
Area runners will raise money
to benefit the Women's Cancer Fund at the 10th annual Remembrance
Run on Oct. 2, at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center. Registration
begins at 8 am, while the 5K/1 Mile Remembrance Run/Walk begins
at 10 am. Registration costs $25 the day of the event. The Traverse
City Track Club sponsors the Remembrance Run, which last year
raised $4,600 for the Women's Cancer Fund.
