Attendance
and Leave Policy
Residents are required to attend all assigned rotations,
clinic sessions, conferences, night or weekend coverage responsibilities,
lectures or other assignments as determined by the program. Attendance
at each monthly Statewide Campus System Educational presentation
is expected.
Excused absences will be granted by the Director
of Medical Education or the Residency Program Director for:
Illness: Each resident may utilize up to three days per year for personal or family medical needs. This time away is not counted as continuing medical education (CME) or vacation time. Use of these days requires notification to the Department secretary, the FPC scheduling staff, and the rotation trainer. Time off for illness in excess of three days per year may require additional days of duty or program extension.
Family Medical Leave Act: Residents are allowed up to 12 weeks of unpaid time for leaves associated with personal or family illness. The granting of this leave is given upon notification of the Program Director who will coordinate this with Munson Medical Center Human Resources.
Other Leaves of Absence: The resident, at the beginning of each year, is credited with 1,040 hours of long-term time off. This time off is to be allowed for leaves of absence, which are mutually agreed upon by the Director of Medical Education and the resident. These leaves are granted with full knowledge of all parties involved that the requirements for accreditation and board certification require that each resident complete all elements of the training program. Therefore, time away from the program for extended periods of time exclusive of illness, vacation/continuing medical education, or holidays will need to be accounted for with extension of the residency to allow completion of 36 months of residency education. At no time will the resident return to the program after a leave of absence to a level beyond that which was attained at the time of the departure. The continuity of patient care may be interrupted for a maximum of three months, but the time missed will be added to the requirement time for graduation.
