There are Hand Surgeons on-call
24 hours a day in the Emergency Room. They are dedicated to the
treatment of the hand, wrist, and elbow.
This specialty includes management of acute trauma,
reconstructive surgery for arthritis or other degenerative conditions,
surgery of the peripheral
nerves, and microvascular surgery.
For wound or fracture care:
Keep dressing clean and dry.
Elevate hand above the heart fulltime
If prescribed, take medications as directed.
For fractures, apply ice packs for the
first 24 hours
Move fingers within the confines of the
dressing
Call to report numbness, excessive swelling,
or increasing pain
