Your heart is a large muscle that pumps blood through arteries and veins to all of the important organs in the body. In the upper right chamber of your heart is a small area of specialized heart muscle called the sinus node that generates mild electrical impulses about 60-100 times per minute. These impulses cause the heart muscle to contract rhythmically, creating your heartbeat. Your heart beats over 100,000 times per day and over 3 billion times in an average lifetime. For this reason, it is very important that all the various parts of the heart be functioning properly to maintain good health.

In this section, you will find information on various cardiac procedures, detailing what you can expect before, during, and after surgery.
