Dialysis Education
As a kidney patient, you will be invited to meet with several
members of the Renal team. These meetings are designed to give
you information about kidney function, disease treatment options,
diets, and life with dialysis. The dialysis staff will provide
information and answer your questions. This information will assist
you in adjusting to your illness and in selecting an appropriate
treatment option.
Peer Resource Consultant This
group consists of dialysis patients who have attended Peer Resource
(PRC) classes. These classes, taught by the Kidney Foundation,
prepare the PRC to talk with pre-dialysis patients. They provide
new dialysis patients with knowledge from personal experience
with dialysis and information about kidney disease and treatment.
They also serve as positive role models, helping to facilitate
expression of feelings with people who have direct experience
with the disease, and how to access appropriate health personnel.
The PRC works closely with the medical staff to
promote positive adjustment and maximum quality of life for the
new dialysis patient. Each pre-dialysis patient has the opportunity
to talk with a PRC if desired.
Patient Advisory Committee
Composed of clinical staff, patients, and support persons, this
committee deals with issues pertaining to dialysis such as patient
education, patient satisfaction, and public awareness of kidney
disease. The group also provides fun activities specific to the
unit.
Transient Dialysis
Munson Dialysis Center tries to accommodate vacationing
hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients. Vacationing hemodialysis
patients are scheduled as space allows.
Before a transient patient can be accepted for treatment,
a packet of all updated medical history needs to be reviewed by
our transient coordinator. The first step in making a request
is to notify your dialysis center of your plans to visit this
area. They will contact us and send your records. Next, fill out
the Transient
Request Form, and mail or fax it to Munson
Dialysis Center. Once your request and information packet is approved,
you will be notified of your dialysis time.
If you are a Munson Healthcare patient and have a compliment,
concern, or complaint, please contact one of our Patient
Liaisons.
