Introduce yourself to the latest in minimally-invasive surgery at Munson Medical Center
Surgeons at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City use the da Vinci Si Surgical System, one of the latest innovations in minimally-invasive surgery. Patients in northern Michigan no longer have to travel out of the region for this highly precise and technologically advanced surgery, offered at Munson since July 2009.
The da Vinci Si Surgical System enhances the treatment options available to patients in northern Michigan, allowing surgeons to use a minimally invasive approach to treat conditions that may have previously required open surgery. Potential benefits of this approach include less blood loss, less risk of infection, less pain following the operation, a shorter hospital stay, and a faster and more complete recovery which means a quicker return to normal daily activities.
With da Vinci surgery, small incisions are used to introduce miniaturized wristed instruments and a high-definition 3D camera. Seated comfortably at the da Vinci console, a surgeon views a magnified, high-resolution 3D image of the surgical site.
Although it is often called a “robot,” da Vinci cannot act on its own; the surgery is performed entirely by a surgeon. State-of-the-art robotic and computer technologies scale, filter and seamlessly translate the surgeon's hand movements into precise micro-movements of the da Vinci instruments. The technology allows the surgeon to perform complex procedures through a few tiny incisions, roughly the diameter of a pencil.
