Everyday life can be overwhelming and sometimes
people need help coping with their problems. It may not require
an overnight hospital stay, but it can be serious enough that
routine counseling wont solve it. To meet these needs, Munson
Healthcare has developed the Partial Hospitalization Program,
(PHP).
Treatment
PHP is a comprehensive, short-term outpatient
program that provides support and treatment for adults facing
emotional or mental difficulties, and who may have substance abuse
problems. It features coordinated, intensive treatment that is
more concentrated than traditional outpatient care. The structured
format provides medical monitoring, plus therapeutic groups and
activities.
PHP participants return home in the evenings
and maintain important links to their family and their community.
This allows them to practice new skills that promote confidence
and independence.
Participants attend sessions from 9 am to
3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Treatment is usually from one
to three weeks, depending on the persons progress.
Goals
The goal of PHP is to help participants understand
their current problems and improve their coping skills. This is
accomplished through a wide range of activities including:
Multidisciplinary evaluation
Group therapy
Stress management
Goal setting
Improving support systems
Family therapy
Planning for life after PHP
Psychiatric evaluation and treatment
Relaxation skills
Overcoming negative thoughts
Developing good sleep habits
Benefits of medication
Exercise to feel better
Health nutrition habits
The programs supportive group format
reduces feelings of isolation and hopelessness as individuals
discover that they are not alone in their struggle for emotional
and mental wellness.
With the participants permission, designated
professionals will be included in treatment planning and weekly
team meetings to review progress and plan for care after the participant
leaves the program.
Admission
PHP is for people, 18 and older, who suffer
significant emotional and/or mental distress that makes it difficult
for them to manage their life in a work, school, or home setting.
They cannot be an immediate danger to themselves or to others,
but must require a level of treatment that cant be provided
by a weekly outpatient visit. They may be at risk for inpatient
hospitalization or may need a transitional experience to re-enter
the community from inpatient care.
Referrals can be made by individuals seeking
treatment, physicians, therapists, or other health care professionals.
A staff clinician assesses all program applicants.
Payment
PHP is covered by most insurance plans, including
Medicaid and Medicare. A financial specialist is available to
answer your questions.
